Why we work by appointment
Hunt Auto Group operates by appointment. This is not a limitation — it is a deliberate choice. It means when you walk in, the vehicle you want to see is out front and warmed up, the CARFAX is printed on the desk, a dealer plate is on the car for the test drive, and no one is going to interrupt your conversation to check on a walk-in.
Walk-ins are welcome too — we are rarely closed if the door is open — but the appointment experience is genuinely better. Fifteen minutes of scheduling saves an hour of waiting.
Three ways to schedule
- Phone or text: (717) 673-1484. Fastest way. Response time is usually a few minutes during business hours; text is fine after hours and we will respond first thing in the morning.
- WhatsApp: same number, se habla español. Native Spanish response, same day, for buyers who prefer it.
- Email: info@huntautogroup.com. One business day response, usually faster.
What to include when you reach out: which vehicle you want to see (a link to the inventory page is best), a window when you would like to come by (a two-hour window is fine, we do not need a precise time), and a heads-up if you will be trading in a vehicle. That last one lets us have our appraisal person available.
What to bring — the checklist
- Valid driver's license (required for the test drive).
- Proof of current auto insurance — a photo of your insurance card on your phone is fine. This covers the test drive under most PA policies.
- Pre-approval letter or rate quote from your bank or credit union, if you are planning to shop with your own financing. Not required — we can quote too — but useful.
- If trading in: your current title, registration, both keys, and payoff information from your lender if the car is still financed.
- A phone charger — some paperwork uses e-signing.
- A friend, spouse, or family member for a second opinion if you want one. We prefer you have someone there.
What happens in the first 15 minutes
A typical first fifteen minutes at Hunt Auto Group looks like this:
- We meet at the front of the vehicle. We hand you the CARFAX and any service records we have.
- Walk-around: we point out any known cosmetic items (a small scratch, a wheel curb rash) so nothing is a surprise later.
- Open the doors, hood, and trunk. Show you the tire tread depth, brake pad thickness, and the last PA safety inspection sticker.
- Answer any questions on ownership history, service, or how we sourced the vehicle at auction or trade.
- Dealer plate on, keys to you, five-minute route suggestion. Go.
The test-drive route from our lot
From our lot the best 20-minute test-drive route heads east on route 422 for the highway portion, loops back through the Lebanon Valley on some older county roads for the rough-surface segment, and finishes with a slow parking-lot lap somewhere quiet. If you would rather stay local — we understand you might not know the roads — we will write you a route on paper and you can follow it.
Full test-drive checklist: our test drive guide walks through exactly what to feel for. Print it before you come if you like.
You are welcome to take the vehicle to a mechanic of your own choosing for a pre-purchase inspection. We will write down the shop address for you and you can go straight there. We do not need to come with you.
Financing during the visit — what to expect
If you decide to move forward and finance through us, budget an additional 45–90 minutes for the application and paperwork. Here is what happens:
- Quick application — ten minutes.
- We submit to our lender network. Most decisions come back within 30 minutes; some subprime applications take an hour or two.
- You review the terms — rate, term, monthly payment. If they do not work, we negotiate the deal or come back with a different offer.
- Sign the contract, complete PA title work, temp tag issued if we are handling registration.
- Drive out with the car.
If you are financing through your own bank or credit union, the timeline depends on how fast your bank cuts a check — usually 24–48 hours. In that case you would typically leave a deposit, complete paperwork, and pick up the car when the check arrives. See more on how our financing works.
Coming from Harrisburg, Reading, or Lancaster
We are close to more of Central PA than you might think:
- Harrisburg — about 30 minutes west on I-81 and route 422.
- Reading — about 35 minutes east on route 422.
- Lancaster — about 30 minutes south on route 72 or via US-322.
- Hershey — 15 minutes west.
- Palmyra, Cornwall, Myerstown, Jonestown, Annville — 10–15 minutes.
If you are driving in from further out, tell us and we will hold the vehicle until you arrive so no one else takes a look at it while you are on the road.
If you decide it is not the car
No pressure. Genuinely. If the car is not right for you — wrong feel, wrong fit, something you noticed on the test drive we did not — we would rather you leave without it than sell you the wrong vehicle. Repeat customers and referrals are how we have grown. That does not happen if we push people into cars they did not want.
If we do not have the right vehicle today, we will add you to our lookout list. When we source something matching your criteria we will text you first, before it is listed publicly.
Test drives longer than 30 minutes — bring it back tomorrow
For buyers who want more than an hour with a vehicle before deciding, we offer overnight or extended test drives on select inventory when it makes sense. You leave a refundable deposit, we hold the vehicle in your name, and you drive it home for the evening or the weekend. This is the closest thing to a real test we can offer without doing a full 7-day return like Carvana.
Extended drives make the most sense on:
- Family vehicles where a spouse needs to feel it too.
- Long commutes — you want to run the car through your actual daily route.
- Cars with quirky features (adaptive cruise, Apple CarPlay integration, hybrid modes) that take real time to evaluate.
- Buyers replacing a vehicle they have driven for a decade — big adjustment period, worth doing right.
Ask when you schedule your visit and we will tell you whether the vehicle you want is eligible.
First-time buyers and re-established credit
A significant portion of our appointments are with first-time buyers, buyers rebuilding credit after a bankruptcy or divorce, and buyers with limited credit history. What we ask you to bring:
- Two recent pay stubs (last 30 days).
- Proof of residence — utility bill or lease in your name, within 60 days.
- List of 5 personal references (name, phone, relationship).
- Down payment or evidence of down payment source.
Our lender network includes several credit-building programs designed for exactly this situation. Rates are higher than prime credit, but they are documented, transparent, and reported to all three credit bureaus — so on-time payments actively rebuild your score. See our bad-credit car loan guide for more on the process.
